JOSÉ BARAHONA
Graduated in Film Directing from the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema in Lisbon, with further studies in Cuba (EICTV) and New York (NYFA). He began his career in 1995 and worked as a sound technician until 2012. In 2013, he became a partner at Refinaria Filmes in Brazil, where he also served as producer and programmer of the Contemporary Portuguese Cinema Showcase and co-producer of the films “Pedro e Inês” and “Raiva”.
His notable works include “Buenos Aires Hora Zero” (2004), “Pastoral” (2004), “Milho” (2005), “O manuscrito perdido*, “Estive em Lisboa e lembrei de você” (2015), and “Alma Clandestina” (2018). In 2020, he premiered “Nheengatu”, awarded at various festivals, and in 2022, he released “Sobreviventes”, with a screenplay co-written with José Eduardo Agualusa. In addition to his work as a director, Barahona has served on juries at festivals such as DocLisboa and occasionally contributes to the Público newspaper.
