Synopsis: With the rupture of the Sangomar peninsula, villages in the Saloum Delta in Senegal became exposed to the sea. The “river,” previously a tutelary deity, has now been replaced by the “sea.” Climate change not only reconfigures landscapes and places, but also the way we see and feel what surrounds us. Chez un autre dieu portrays encounters and disconnects in the Saloum Delta, oscillating between two universes and times: a local universe, of cyclical, animist temple worship, of the Serere - the people of the Saloum delta; and a global, Western universe, of linear time, marked by techno-science, experienced and lived by tourists and environmental NGOs that frequent this biosphere reserve. In a portrayal that is as poetic as it is trivial, the difficult equation between different worldviews and times that constitute the fragile balance of this place today forms the narrative thread of this film.
